Imitation plastic bearings are used instead of real bearings, for example to measure the timing of the racks and to machine the motor accordingly. The dummy bearing is simply inserted into the crankcase by hand. Unlike a real bearing, the dummy bearing does not have to be laboriously inserted by shrinking, which protects the housing and crankshaft bearing housings, as well as the actual bearings that will only be used later.
